Steve Lopez - one of my favorite LA TIMES columnists

Steve Lopez

Right now Lopez's following the possible Warren Beatty candidancy.

After Minuteman Melee, Protesters Have New Beef [Garden Grove brouhaha re illegals]

After Minuteman Melee, Protesters Have New Beef

I disapprove of illegals; however, I don't approve of running them down!

Also, why does the word "racist" come up so much in these discussions about illegal immigration? That doesn't make sense.

Personally, I'm pro-immigrant (My dad's an immigrant! Who learned English and became a citizen, a registered voter, a WWII vet...), but illegal is illegal.

This is a big issue here in SoCal, even more so than in the rest of the country.

Catch my new posts about SoCal on my Wazzup Page - see "News & Views - from Southern California" (website version) about Cal Worthington and Huell Howser. Clicking the subject header/title up there will get you to the Wazzup Page.

Have a good holiday weekend, everybody! Buckle up, don't drink & drive, and watch out for the rip currents and sewage.

I may be going to the beach tomorrow : )

Calif. State Legislators to Receive 12% Raise [ !!!? !@#$%! ]

Legislators to Receive 12% Raise

What?! When we have the budget deficit we do? When we don't have enough money for too many important things?

This makes me think the legislators might be as big a jerks as Arnold.

Very disgruntled California voter.

Hurray!

(I wouldn't stay away, anyway, since I don't go in the water much.)

First, Rob Reiner (The Meathead), now Warren Beatty...

Who knows? Maybe either one of them could do a better job than the Governator?

Or, maybe, there should be a separation of Hollywood and state??

The next election for governor will be interesting.

Also... yet another bear goes skinny-dipping in a neighborhood pool

And...gee, it looks like rain. Is there any chance at all that we'll break our record? My fingers are crossed.

I hate Summer in SoCal

Real-time Data & Forecast From the AQMD

Look at our Air Quality (I think that's an oxymoron in this region.). The MAX AQI number is the most important - anything 50+ is bad.

Yesterday when we were in the Inland Empire (Corona to be specific.) air conditioning kept us comfortable, but there was the matter of...being short of breath! Also head-achey.

Made me long for the beach.

Corona Weather Forecasts on Yahoo! Weather

Bummer, Heat's Coming

And instead of driving away from it, we'll be driving into it this weekend, OIOW, going from this beachtown into The Inland Empire.

Summer is my least favorite season here in SoCal...

Anyway, have a good weekend, everybody!

Now Let's Do It

Welcome to the blog from Southern California!

This will be about California, but it will also be news & views in general as seen by a person in California.

Is that clear as mud? You'll see what I mean as I go along, also from viewing my Wazzup Page on my website.

Got a spiffy link already for you today, brand-new: http://pasadena.wr.usgs.gov/step/ - Real-Time Forecast of Earthquake Hazard in the Next 24 Hours (from the USGS).

Hey, Californians out there - and others - what do you think of our governor?

What do you think of our state? Also the state it's in?

Later.

Hey from SoCal!

The next step is to figure out how to get this to hook up to my website....

It would help a lot if I weren't falling asleep right now.

I'm wondering what became of that brushfire in Burbank? Also today's Michael Jackson trial?

I'll do better next post. I'm really just trying to get this thing going. Figure out what I'm doing with it.

Later.
